How to Enable Tabs in File Explorer on Windows 11?

Microsoft has consistently endeavored to bring new features to different versions of Windows. Recently Microsoft has decided to enable Tabs in File Explorer on Windows 11 which undoubtedly is a very exciting feature expected by the entire user fraternity for a very long time.

Friends, I also wanted to enable Tabs in File Explorer on Windows 11 to save a lot of time working on my computer and to remain able to access multiple folders directly in almost no time for which I resorted to changing some settings through Command Prompt.

I take this opportunity to share herewith a quick walkthrough about how to enable Tabs in File Explorer on Windows 11.

Step 1 - You must ensure that you have enrolled yourself for the Dev Channel of the Windows 11 Insider Program and you have also got your PC updated to the latest operating system build as a new tabs option is available in the Windows 11 Dev Build 25136 version.

Step 2 - The next step to be performed is to set up the Vive Tool (version v.0.2.1).

Step 3 - After you have extracted the zip folder and have saved all the relevant files you must give right-click on the extracted folder and must also choose the “Copy as path” option.

Step 4 - What follows next is opening the Command Prompt by typing in “CMD” in the Windows Search and choosing the “Run as administrator” option. At this point in time, you must also ensure that you are running the Command Prompt with Admin Privileges.

Step 5 - Now in the Command Prompt window, you have to type in “cd” and must paste the path copied as mentioned above. The path that is needed to be pasted here must be retrieved by clicking on the “CMD Window”. It may look like as shown below:

cd "C:\Users\Vikram\Downloads\ViVeTool-v0.2.1"

You must please note that the path of the file is different in your case and that you must add the path with the objective of moving the ViVo tool folder to the Command Prompt.

Step 6 - Now you must switch to executing the below-mentioned command to enable Tabs in File Explorer on Windows 11.

As a result of executing this command, you will definitely see the successful setup configuration message on the Command Prompt screen.

Step 7 - Now to enable the new navigation panel known as the “SV2Navpane” you just have to execute another command mentioned below:

Now please note that if you are on Dev Build then you must restart your PC and all tab-related settings will get configured. But if you are on the Beta Channel then you must also execute the next step. 

Step 8 - Just manage to run one more command mentioned below in the Command Prompt and you will have the new tab on file explorer settings enabled on the Beta Channel as well.
